⛵️Пингвины получили своё имя от латинского названия бескрылой гагарки (Pinguinus impennis) – черно-белой нелетающей птицы, истребленной человеком в середине 19 века.

Она обитала в северных водах Атлантического океана и вела схожий с пингвинами образ жизни, но была съедена моряками, курсировавшими на кораблях между Европой и Америкой. Последняя пара бескрылых гагарок, найденная около высиживаемого яйца, была убита Йоном Брандсоном и Сигурдуром Ислейфсоном 3 июля 1844 года.

Единственное в России и одно из 78 чучел бескрылой гагарки в мире хранится в коллекции @statedarwinmuseum
